How we score solar energy equipment suppliers in Perth
What this page covers
Perth Solar Industry Guide currently scores 221 solar energy equipment supplier businesses across the Perth Metropolitan area. This page explains, in plain terms, how we arrive at the 0-100 composite score attached to each listing, why we weight the signals the way we do, and where the score's confidence runs thin. We built this rubric so a reader comparing panel and battery installers can tell the difference between a business that consistently satisfies customers and one that simply has a lot of reviews.
The five signals, heaviest first
Every score is built from five measured inputs. We list them here in order of how much each one counts.
- Sentiment, 28%. A synthesis of what recent reviews actually say, weighing praise against recurring complaints. This is the single biggest factor in the score.
- Rating, 26%. The business's aggregate star rating on Google.
- Volume, 20%. How many reviews a business has, log-scaled so that ten reviews and one thousand don't produce wildly different scores per review. A handful of reviews shouldn't carry the same weight as hundreds.
- Recency, 10%. How recently customers have left reviews. Solar equipment, installation quality, and after-sales service can change over a few years as a business grows or changes staff, so recent feedback tells you more about what to expect today.
- Completeness, 16%. Whether the business lists a working phone number, website, trading hours, and physical address. A supplier who makes it easy to get a quote or ask a question about warranty support has cleared a basic bar of professionalism.
Why sentiment carries the most weight
A star average on its own can hide a lot. Two solar suppliers can sit at exactly 4.3 stars while one has a spread of minor gripes and the other has a cluster of recent reviews all describing the same problem, such as delayed installs, unresponsive warranty claims, or panels that underperform against what was quoted. The star number alone won't show you that pattern. Reading what recent reviews actually describe is the only way to catch it, which is why sentiment is weighted above the raw rating itself. For a purchase as large and long-term as a solar system or battery, that distinction matters more than half a star of difference.
Where the score is honest about its limits
Businesses with only a few recent reviews don't get treated the same as those with a deep, current review history. When there isn't enough recent data to synthesise a reliable sentiment picture, we mark that listing as a low-confidence score so readers know to weigh it accordingly. We also don't republish review text wholesale. What you'll read on a business's page is our synthesis of the themes we found, and we link out to Google so you can read the original reviews yourself and judge the source directly.
What never changes the score
Scores are calculated from this rubric and the underlying data only. They are never hand-edited. Where paid placement exists on this site, it is always labelled clearly and it does not affect a business's score or its position in a ranked list. Any list where the picks or order involved editorial judgment, rather than the score alone, discloses that plainly on the page itself, including our best battery storage list.
Who's behind this
Perth Solar Industry Guide is published by Scout Local Media, an independent Australian publisher that's been building local guides and business directories since 2026. Scout Local Media exists to help people find local businesses they can actually trust, and to help the good ones get seen. Editorial oversight of these rankings sits with Clara Tan, Editorial Director, who maintains the rubric and reviews how it's applied across listings. FAQ
- How many solar suppliers does this guide score?
- We currently score 221 solar energy equipment supplier businesses across the Perth Metropolitan area, using the same rubric for every listing.
- Can a business pay to improve its score?
- No. Scores come only from the rubric and the underlying data. Paid placement, where it exists, is always labelled and never changes a business's score or ranking.
- Why do some listings show a low-confidence label?
- That label appears when a business doesn't have enough recent reviews to build a reliable picture of sentiment. It's there so you know to weigh that score with more caution.
- Where can I read the original reviews myself?
- We synthesise review themes rather than republishing the text, and every listing links out to the business's Google reviews so you can read the source directly.
